The Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross is Sept. 14th. We will celebrate it on the weekend of September 12-13. Parishioners can bring a cross from home or purchase one in the Gift Shop for the Blessing of Crosses during each Mass.
The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is a Christian holiday celebrated every year on September 14 to honor the cross used in the crucifixion as the instrument of human salvation.
Historical Meaning/Discovery: The holiday marks the finding of the True Cross in Jerusalem by Saint Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine, in the fourth century.
Consecration: It commemorates the dedication of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in 335 AD, when the relic of the cross was first lifted up, or "exalted," for the public to see and venerate.
Recovery: It later included the celebration of Emperor Heraclius's recovery of the cross from the Persians in 628 AD.
